Concerns and fortunes of Baikal aborigines

The Baikal is not only its nature and constructions, buildings and utility lines built on its shores. The Baikal is also the peoples inhabiting its area. And these peoples for centuries and decades apprehended and glorified the Baikal transmitting their impressions and reflections about its world to their descendants.

In scientific literature there appeared works indicating development of “Ethnical Ecology” discipline, the goals of which are to study the following:

• the traditional life support systems of ethnical groups in natural and sociocultural conditions of their habitat;

• influence of established ecological interconnections on the health of people;

• the specific ways of environment use by different peoples and their influence on it;

• traditions of rational nature management;

• regularity of ethnic ecosystem formation.

Further on I shall talk about some problems concerning the characteristics of people in the sphere of ethnic ecology and ethnopsychology in the historic and modern context on the example of Lake Baikal peoples.
